The Lahore district administration has changed the operating hours of markets and restaurants in the city due to worsening smog conditions.
According to officials, markets will now close at 10 pm from Monday to Saturday. Markets will operate from 2 pm to 10 pm, allowing shoppers extra time during the weekend. Meanwhile, restaurants and cafes will follow specific timings as well. From Monday to Thursday, they must shut down by 11 pm. However, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, dining places can remain open until midnight. To facilitate customers, home delivery services will continue until 2 am on weekends and holidays.
Authorities have clarified that essential services are exempt from these restrictions. Medical stores, milk shops, hospitals, laboratories, petrol pumps, tandoors, and puncture repair points will operate as usual to ensure public convenience. The aim is to balance business activity while maintaining essential services without disruption.
Officials emphasized that all businesses must strictly follow the new schedule. They warned that strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules. Teams will be monitoring markets and food outlets to ensure compliance. These revised timings are part of the district’s efforts to improve management and public convenience, especially in crowded areas. Business owners and citizens have been urged to cooperate for smooth implementation.
According to the administration, the decision will not only help regulate business hours but also support energy conservation and maintain law and order. The public has been encouraged to complete their shopping and dining activities within the allowed hours to avoid inconvenience.
