Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a monthly stipend of Rs25000 for mosque imams across Punjab.
Around 65,000 imams are expected to benefit from this decision, which is meant to help them manage daily expenses and live with dignity. Imams play a key role in leading prayers and guiding people on religious and social matters. However, many of them earn very little, especially in small towns and villages. Because of this, the new stipend has been widely welcomed, particularly by those who work in areas where mosque funds are limited.
Officials believe this initiative will not only provide financial relief but also show respect for the important role imams play in society. At the same time, some voices have reminded the government to continue investing in essential sectors like education, healthcare, and employment while supporting religious leaders.
For now, the program is seen as a positive move to strengthen community support systems. It also highlights the government’s effort to acknowledge the contributions of imams who assist people in spiritual guidance and community matters every day. More details about the implementation process are expected in the coming weeks. However, the decision has already brought hope to thousands of imams who have long been working with dedication despite limited financial resources.
