Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given the green light for the construction of the Kulsoom Nawaz Hospital in Rawalpindi Cantt, aimed at delivering international-standard healthcare services to local residents.
A major healthcare project is set to begin in Rawalpindi, with plans to build a new hospital on a 36-kanal site near Chuhar Chowk, at the former GTS terminal. The hospital, designed to accommodate 3000 beds, will include a dedicated cardiac ward and other essential medical facilities. A comprehensive PC-1 proposal for the project has been prepared, and construction is expected to begin within the year, funded through the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
The new hospital will serve not only the residents of Rawalpindi Cantt but also surrounding areas like Taxila, Attock, Haripur, Fateh Jang, Tarnol, and Hassan Abdal. The project reflects the vision of both former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aiming to modernize and develop Rawalpindi.
Local lawmakers, including National Assembly member Malik Ibrar and Provincial Assembly member Malik Iftikhar, highlighted the hospital’s importance as a key part of the city’s development. They also emphasized that special funds have been allocated to ensure the timely completion of the project. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to lay the foundation stone for the hospital.
This initiative aligns with the broader healthcare plans of Maryam Nawaz Sharif for Punjab, which include offering free emergency medical services in government hospitals, launching health screening programs, and establishing modern hospitals across the province. The government has also promised to enhance healthcare infrastructure by improving basic health units and rural health centers with qualified staff and modern equipment.
