Monsoon rains claim 7 lives in Balochistan

Faisalabad experienced record rainfall of 320 mm in just 24 hours, the highest total reported by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Faisalabad in its history.

Continuous rain on Monday during the day and night led to the clogging of water in various locations and disrupted the efforts of citizens to live their daily lives in the city. According to WASA Managing Director Sohail Qadir Cheema, the authority was able to start an emergency response quickly. He said that all dewatering sets and sucker machines were kept running, and that officers and field staff monitored operations in the field. As a result, rainwater was cleared from the main intersections and central roads, which helped the flow of traffic and eased the burdens felt by citizens needing to work or attend to their own lives.

Cheema added that the WASA teams are in the field working around the clock to provide quick and quality service in the current wet spell. He emphasized that the field units and helplines are on alert to deal with any emergencies, while complaints from residents are being dealt with and tackled promptly. Citizens also acknowledged that the fast response in three hours helped prevent areas that are normally heavily affected by rain from remaining inundated with water. The WASA teams’ presence on the main roads of the city also reduced the length of the traffic jams despite the ferocity of the rain.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution because more rain is in the forecast. They also advised people to not hesitate to contact the WASA helpline if they see flooding or drainage issues.
