Flood fears have risen in Multan as river water has reached the Shershah Bund, prompting authorities to issue an immediate evacuation alert for nearby areas.
Announcements are being made in localities around the protective dyke, and residents have already begun moving to safer places. According to Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Kathia, the river water is putting intense pressure on Multan. He confirmed that floodwater from the Chenab River, passing through Trimmu Barrage, has entered the city. Adding to the crisis, another flow carrying 575,000 cusecs of water is also heading toward Multan, which is likely to worsen the situation.
At the same time, concerns have grown as India has released more water into the Sutlej River. Reports indicate that a high flood alert has been issued downstream of Harike and Ferozepur barrages. The Indian High Commissioner officially informed Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources about this development at 8:00 am on Tuesday. Rescue agencies and disaster management teams are on high alert, working to guide evacuations and provide emergency support. Citizens in flood-prone areas have been urged to cooperate with authorities and leave immediately for safer locations.
Officials stressed that the situation remains serious and that both rivers, Chenab and Sutlej, are being closely monitored. Continuous coordination between agencies is underway to reduce risks and protect lives as heavy floodwaters move further downstream.
