Orya Maqbool Jan arrested for online propaganda against institutions

LAHORE – Seasoned columnist, writer, and former bureaucrat Orya Maqbool Jan has been arrested at his residence in DHA Phase 6 Lahore.

The famous TV guest is facing charges under Cyber Terrorism Act for allegedly inciting religious and institutional animosity through his social media content, particularly related to Mubarak Sani case, reports said.

Orya legal team led by Azhar Siddique said the 72-year-old is being held at Gulberg Cyber Crime office, and they have not yet received the details of the FIR. He is expected to appear before a Judicial Magistrate today.

In previous development, Federal Investigators summoned dozens of journalists and YouTubers, including Orya Maqbool for supposedly spreading false information and negative propaganda against the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

This is not that first time when Orya faced such situation, he had previously been detained by Lahore Police during a raid on his home on May 13, 2023.
