The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a monsoon alert ahead of the fifth spell of seasonal rains, set to begin from July 28 and continue till July 31, with heavy showers expected across most districts of the province.
Heavy rains are likely to hit most parts of Punjab as the fifth spell of monsoon approaches. According to PDMA Punjab, districts including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Jhelum, Sahiwal, and Jhang are expected to receive widespread rain in the coming days. Moderate rainfall is also forecasted in areas such as Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Nankana Sahib, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Khushab, and Mianwali.
Between July 29 and 31, more showers are expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Lodhran, Vehari, and Bhakkar. Tourist spots like Murree and Galiyat are at risk of landslides due to expected heavy rain, and visitors are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to these areas for safety reasons. Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has directed all deputy commissioners and relevant departments to remain on high alert. He said that the monsoon has been extremely intense this year, with rainfall recorded 73 percent higher than the same period last year.
Authorities have urged the public to take all necessary precautions, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas, to stay safe during this heavy weather activity. Emergency teams are on standby to manage any possible situation caused by the intense monsoon conditions.
