PDMA warns of medium to high floods in Punjab rivers

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has warned of medium to high floods in the province’s rivers as heavy monsoon rains continue to affect the region.

According to the spokesperson, water levels in Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers have risen, while adjacent streams and drains are also overflowing. The authority has particularly warned of a medium to high flood in the Chenab River within the next 24 hours as a heavy water flow from the Tawi River near Jammu is expected to enter Pakistan. Indian authorities have also cautioned Islamabad about the possibility of severe flooding in the Tawi. PDMA stated that this situation could affect Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot, Jhang, and surrounding areas.

At Marala headworks, the Chenab recorded an inflow of 127000 cusecs and an outflow of 109000 cusecs, while at Khanki headworks, the inflow was 128000 cusecs against an outflow of 121000 cusecs. The Sutlej River remains in high flood at Ganda Singh Wala with a flow of 133000 cusecs and in medium flood at Sulemanki with 94000 cusecs inflow and 87000 cusecs outflow. Meanwhile, the Indus River is in low flood at Kalabagh and Chashma, and the Ravi is in low flood at Jassar with 53000 cusecs of water. PDMA has also expressed concern about possible flash floods in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.

Authorities have directed district administrations, especially in Gujrat and Sialkot, to stay on high alert and ensure immediate response.
