PMD issues rain and snowfall warning for certain areas

Light rain and snowfall are expected in the mountainous regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The hilly areas are expected to experience extremely low temperatures during the morning and night. Light rain and snowfall are likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, smog and fog are expected to affect the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reducing visibility and causing travel difficulties.

In response to the forecast, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning residents to take precautions during the rainy weather. Authorities have urged travelers to remain cautious, especially in hilly and mountainous regions where roads may become slippery.

During the past 24 hours, most areas experienced cold and dry weather. The lowest temperature was recorded in Leh at minus 9 degrees Celsius, followed by Skardu at minus 7, Ziarat at minus 6, and Gopis at minus 5 degrees Celsius. Gilgit and Quetta recorded minus 4 degrees, while Chitral, Dir, and Kalat saw temperatures drop to minus 3 degrees Celsius.

Experts advise residents to dress warmly and limit outdoor activities during the coldest hours of the day. Farmers and livestock owners are also being urged to take steps to protect crops and animals from the harsh winter conditions. The cold wave is expected to continue for the next few days, with temperatures remaining below normal in most parts of the country. People are encouraged to follow updates from the Meteorological Department and local authorities to stay informed about weather changes and potential hazards.
