Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight carrying Sindh Local Bodies Minister Nasir Shah narrowly avoided a serious incident after developing a technical fault shortly after takeoff on Friday.
The pilot quickly informed air traffic control and decided to return the aircraft to Karachi for safety reasons. Onboard were Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Shah, Sukkur Mayor Arsalan Sheikh, and other passengers. PIA authorities stated that passengers were immediately informed about the technical problem, and the flight was subsequently canceled. Minister Nasir Shah, who was scheduled to attend an event in Sukkur, returned to Karachi following the cancellation.
In a separate incident, another PIA flight from Dubai to Islamabad witnessed a passenger’s death mid-flight. A male passenger named Malik Jahanzaib, a resident of Abbottabad, suffered a cardiac arrest during the journey. Civil Aviation Authority officials confirmed that the passenger had a stroke onboard, and his body has been handed over to his heirs.
These incidents have raised concerns about in-flight safety and emergency preparedness. PIA authorities emphasized that the airline follows strict safety protocols and that pilots are trained to handle technical emergencies efficiently. In both cases, quick action ensured that passengers remained safe and that appropriate measures were taken promptly.
Authorities are reviewing both incidents to ensure compliance with safety standards and to prevent similar events in the future. Passengers are being advised to stay alert and follow crew instructions during flights. The airline has reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, emphasizing that technical issues and medical emergencies are handled with utmost priority to minimize risks and ensure smooth operations across all domestic and international flights.
