The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the Shawwal moon is unlikely to be sighted on the 29th of Ramadan, indicating that the holy month is expected to complete 30 days in Pakistan.
According to officials, Ramadan is likely to complete 30 days, as moon-visibility conditions appear unfavorable. Weather experts reported that the new moon will be born at 6:23 am on March 19. However, by sunset, the moon’s age will be between 12 and 13 hours. Specialists explained that a moon of this age is generally not visible to the naked eye and remains extremely difficult to observe even with a telescope. Therefore, the chances of moon sighting on March 19 remain negligible.
Based on these scientific calculations, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to fall on Saturday, March 21. Nevertheless, the final decision will be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing testimonies and reports from across the country. Sources confirmed that the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will hold its meeting on the evening of March 19 under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. In addition, zonal committees will convene meetings in district offices to collect moon-sighting evidence. After evaluating all information, the central body will issue the official announcement.
Although astronomical data suggests low visibility, authorities emphasize that the final decision depends on verified reports and religious guidelines. Meanwhile, citizens are advised to wait for the official declaration before making travel or celebration plans. Overall, current forecasts strongly suggest that Ramadan will complete 30 fasts this year, with Eid-ul-Fitr expected on March 21, subject to the final confirmation by the relevant committee.
