On the directives of the Lahore High Court, the Punjab Environment Department has imposed a complete ban on washing vehicles in homes and violators have to face a Rs10000 fine and legal action.
Lahore’s Environment Department has taken urgent steps to address the growing water crisis in the city. Deputy Director Environment Ali Ijaz issued an awareness notice urging residents to save water and avoid wastage in daily routines.
In the notice, a complete ban has been announced on washing vehicles with clean tap water. The decision comes amid a severe water shortage, and the ban is meant to prioritize water use for essential needs like drinking, cooking, and sanitation. Violators of the ban will face a fine of Rs 10,000, along with possible legal action.
Citizens are encouraged to adopt alternative car-cleaning methods. These include using recycled water, visiting car wash stations that recycle water, or applying waterless cleaning products available in the market. The aim is to reduce unnecessary use of fresh water.
Ali Ijaz appealed to all households in Lahore to cooperate with this initiative, highlighting the need to preserve this limited natural resource. He emphasized that saving water now will ensure its availability for future generations.
The Environment Department will also present a performance report in the Lahore High Court on April 11. The report will include measures taken to handle the city’s environmental and water-related challenges.
Authorities hope that strict action, along with public awareness, will help reduce water wastage. The department also plans to monitor compliance and carry out further inspections in different areas.
Citizens are reminded that water conservation is a shared responsibility, and every individual’s effort can make a meaningful difference in dealing with the current water crisis.
