Punjab cracks down on substandard cough syrups & medicines

The Punjab Drug Control Authority has declared multiple batches of commonly used medicines, including popular cough syrups, as substandard and has ordered an immediate ban on their sale.

The alert lists the names and batch numbers of affected medicines, emphasizing the urgent need for action. One of the most hazardous products is Aricof Cough Syrup, which contains dangerously high levels of Diethylene Glycol, a toxic chemical. This has prompted an immediate nationwide recall. Other affected items include Loratadine tablets 10 mg, SafeMed 100 ml, and several medicinal creams.

Officials have instructed everyone who has these batches to return them without delay. Hospitals are also being asked to check their inventories and ensure that these products are removed to prevent further health risks. Meanwhile, medical facilities report a sharp increase in cases of cold, cough, dengue, and malaria. Health experts warn that these outbreaks are creating serious public health concerns. They advise citizens to take precautions such as avoiding handshakes, keeping a safe distance from others, wearing masks in crowded areas, and strengthening their immunity through a balanced diet.

In addition, authorities are monitoring the distribution of these medicines to prevent further exposure.
