Punjab government offers Rs70000 monthly stipend: How to apply

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday approved a monthly stipend of Rs70000 for agriculture interns, aiming to engage youth in the province’s agricultural sector.

She stressed the importance of linking young professionals with the farming sector through the Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar program. Under this initiative, interns will gain practical experience in farm management and agricultural innovation, enabling skilled youth to actively contribute to Punjab’s agricultural transformation.

In a landmark decision, the Chief Minister approved rooftop hydroponic farming projects for the first time in Punjab. On rooftops as small as two marla, farmers can grow between 280 and 350 plants using specially designed structures and polythene sheets. Initially, ten pilot projects will launch in Lahore, with planned coordination with housing societies to expand the model further.

Moreover, the government approved environment-friendly measures to promote sustainable agriculture. A solarization scheme will convert 10,000 diesel tube wells to solar energy, reducing fuel costs and environmental impact. Additionally, under the Punjab Agriculture Mechanization Project, authorities aim to distribute 28,000 super seeders by 2028 to improve crop productivity and reduce stubble burning.

The Chief Minister also approved Phase IV of the Green Tractor Program. Under the new phase, farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs1.5 million for high-horsepower tractors, while the subsidy for low-horsepower tractors has increased to Rs700000.

Furthermore, Punjab will introduce ground recharge wells for on-farm rainwater harvesting. These wells will store rainwater and improve water management in agricultural fields. Overall, these initiatives aim to strengthen modern farming, ensure environmental sustainability, and create meaningful opportunities for Punjab’s youth in the agricultural sector.
