Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday revealed a special compensation package for flood-affected people, while outlining key infrastructure plans for long-term protection.
During her visit, she announced the construction of a permanent protective embankment for Jalalpur Peerwala and urged officials to ensure that ongoing evacuation operations receive close supervision, as well as announcing the Gilani Expressway project for Uch Sharif to show the links between development and assistance.
Maryam Nawaz announced a comprehensive package for the families who were impacted by floods. Families who had lost their loved ones in the floods will get Rs1 million. Families whose homes were destroyed will get Rs1 million, and families whose homes were partially destroyed will get Rs500000. She stated that Rs500000 will be paid for the loss of large livestock. Rs50000 will be paid for the loss of small livestock.
In addressing the victims, she stated that although there can never be real compensation for human lives, the government is ready to stand with the affected people. She indicated that as the daughter of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, she will keep all her promises and offer full support to every family. Maryam Nawaz stated that there are many people stuck who need to be rescued urgently. She reaffirmed her commitment to rebuilding the homes of all the flood victims and noted that the displaced people were guests of the government. She assured them that no one will be sent home until the floodwaters recede and reiterated that there are many efforts being made to protect lives and reduce suffering.
