The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has issued its prediction for the sighting of the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon for the Islamic year 1447 AH.
According to astronomical data, the moon will be born on August 23, 2025, at 11:06 am. By the evening of August 24, it will be more than 32 hours old, which makes it possible to be visible under favorable weather conditions. In Pakistan’s coastal districts, the difference between sunset and moonset is predicted to be around 45 minutes on that evening. If skies remain clear, chances of sighting the new moon are high.
Based on these calculations, the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal is expected to fall on August 25, 2025. Religious scholars and local committees will confirm the final decision after receiving reports from across the country. Rabi-ul-Awwal is the third month of the Islamic calendar and holds great importance for Muslims worldwide. It is marked by gatherings, special prayers, and religious events, especially to honor the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). In Pakistan, the month is observed with deep reverence, and preparations often begin soon after the official moon sighting announcement.
Authorities have also urged citizens to follow updates from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will make the official declaration regarding the start of the new month. The committee works alongside regional bodies and relies on both scientific data and visual reports to make its final announcement.
