Rs 5,000 bill to be discontinued? Resolution presented to Senate

A resolution to end or discontinue the usage of 5,000 bills will be presented to the Senate today, November 20th, 2023 (Monday). The bill is scheduled to be presented at 3:00 pm.

The Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani will be the head of the following meeting as participants will present the resolution regarding the depreciation of Pakistani Rupee against the US Dollar.

Sources also suggest that a resolution related to the hike in electric and gas prices will also be presented by the members in the upper house session.

Two further bills will also be presented at the meeting. The amendment bill for The Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking and the amendment bill for the Criminal Law will be prevented.

During the month of September, there had been several rumours regarding the discontinuation of the Rs 5,000 bill. Individuals allegedly claimed that a notification had been issued. There was also a fake notification circulating the web too.

However, the interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi clarified the rumour by stating that the notification roaming over the net is totally fake. He further stated that an action will be taken against the individuals who have spread this rumour.

This came at a time when Pakistan was fighting excessive inflation and the depreciation of Pakistani currency against the US Dollar.
