The Sindh government has declared a public holiday in Umerkot district on April 17.
This seat became vacant after the death of Nawab Yousuf Talpur, who had been elected as MNA from NA-213 during the 2024 general elections. He passed away in February, prompting the Election Commission to schedule a by-election.
To support the voting process and maintain law and order, all government offices, schools, and institutions in the constituency will remain closed on polling day. The holiday aims to make it easier for voters to participate in the democratic process without disruption.
Election staff and security personnel have already been assigned duties, and preparations are in the final stages. Ballot papers and other election materials are being delivered under tight security. Several candidates from major political parties are contesting for the seat, and the competition is expected to be tough. Voter turnout is likely to play a key role in the outcome of the by-election.
The administration has also set up control rooms and monitoring systems to deal with any emergency situations on polling day. Security has been tightened in and around polling stations to ensure peaceful voting.
The by-election in NA-213 holds significance, as it will reflect the current political mood of the area following the loss of a senior leader. All arrangements are being closely supervised to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
