Six militants killed in KP operation

Security forces killed six terrorists in two separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Waziristan districts, the military’s media wing said on Monday.

Security forces conducted a successful intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Razmak, North Waziristan, targeting terrorist elements. According to the ISPR, five terrorists were killed during the operation. The forces acted on credible intelligence and struck the militants’ hideout effectively.

In a separate operation in South Waziristan, security forces killed Zabihullah Zikran, a most-wanted terrorist ringleader involved in several attacks on security personnel and targeted killings of innocent civilians. His elimination marks a significant success in the ongoing efforts against terrorism.

The military stated that clearance operations are still ongoing to eliminate any remaining threats in the area. Security forces reaffirmed their commitment to completely eradicate terrorism from Pakistan.

Pakistan has experienced a notable increase in terror activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, after the Taliban took over in Afghanistan in 2021. Pakistani authorities claim that many attacks are being planned from Afghan soil.

Recent statistics from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) show a 42% surge in terrorist attacks in January 2025 compared to December 2024. A total of 74 attacks were reported, leaving 91 people dead, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Another 117 people were injured.

KP remains the most affected province. In its settled areas, 27 attacks took place, causing 19 deaths. In the tribal districts, 19 attacks resulted in 46 fatalities. Balochistan also saw a number of incidents, underlining the growing challenge of militancy.

These recent operations reflect the state’s resolve to secure the region and counter terrorist networks operating in sensitive areas.
