PMDC Unveils New Question Bank for MDCAT 2025

More than 33,000 students participated in Pakistan’s first nationwide National Skill Competency Test (NSCT) for IT graduates, marking a major step toward standardizing digital skills and improving workforce readiness in the country’s technology sector.

The government launched the National Standardized Computing Test. This connects university education to the needs of Pakistan’s growing IT sector. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication created a skills assessment for computing graduates.

The NSCT took place as a computer-based test (CBT) in April 2026. It was synchronized on the Virtual University platform. The total number of students registered is 40,784 and 33,038 appeared, which is 81 per cent. Testing was conducted in 112 cities in 165 centres and more than 190 universities participated. The exam consisted of 100 questions and the test time was 4 hours (120 minutes) in four sessions.

A multi-stakeholder steering committee established the program in November 2025.

The committee had members from the following:

  • Higher Education Commission
  • MoITT
  • Pakistan Software Export Board
  • P@SHA
  • National Computing Education Accreditation Council
  • Virtual University

This organization created the test to establish national standards. It also aims to increase employer trust in Pakistan’s IT graduates.

The NSCT will help to further connect industry and academia, officials say. It can guide curriculum changes and connect courses to market demand at universities. Successful competency assessments give employers a reliable way to hire qualified graduates.

The scheme aims to increase IT exports. It does this by enhancing the employability of IT graduates. It covers topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data science. The test will simplify how we test schools over time.

In the future, officials will look at data. They will find areas to improve teaching and skills. They will consider testing cycles and industry partnerships. This way, they can apply test results to make real changes in the curriculum.
