An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Islamabad and cities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
According to initial reports, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.5 and struck at a depth of 12 kilometers. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that the epicenter was located 60 kilometers northwest of Rawalpindi.
In Azad Kashmir and different parts of northern Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Mianwali, people rushed out of homes and offices in fear when the tremors were felt.
Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the earthquake was experienced in Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Haripur, Mohmand, Abbottabad, Malakand, and nearby areas. The tremors lasted for a few seconds but were strong enough to cause concern among residents.
So far, no reports of injuries or property damage have been received from any of the affected areas. Emergency services remain alert, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
Residents are advised to stay calm and follow safety precautions in case of aftershocks. Experts have urged people to check buildings for any structural issues and avoid standing near old or damaged walls.
