Tremors felt in Multan and nearby areas after 4.8 quake

An earthquake was felt in several areas of Punjab, including Multan, according to initial reports received by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) from all districts of the province.

The quake hit at 1:05 pm at a depth of 55 kilometers, with its epicenter located 126 kilometers west of Multan. Fortunately, no major tremors were reported, and there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. This was the latest in a series of earthquakes that have recently shaken different parts of Pakistan. Earlier on September 4, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Hindu Kush region. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the quake struck at 9:56 pm at a depth of 111 kilometers. Tremors were strongly felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Abbottabad, Swat, Mansehra, Hangu, Attock, and Malakand.

The following day, another earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude rattled multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Residents in Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, and Malakand reported tremors, which caused panic and forced many people to leave their homes. The Seismological Center noted that the quake had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region.

Although these tremors have not caused large-scale damage, experts warn that the Hindu Kush region remains one of the most seismically active zones in South Asia. They urge residents to remain cautious and follow safety protocols during earthquakes. Pakistan lies in a high-risk earthquake zone, where mild to moderate tremors are common. Authorities have advised citizens to stay alert, avoid panic, and ensure emergency preparedness in case of stronger quakes in the future.
