Two patients allegedly died due to a reaction to an injection, while 15 others fell ill at the chest ward of Mayo Hospital in Lahore.
Hospital authorities responded immediately, suspending the use of the injection and launching an investigation.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Ehtesham confirmed the fatality, while Dr. Haroon Hamid formed a high-level committee to probe the matter. The hospital administration is working to strengthen patient safety measures and prevent future incidents.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made a surprise visit to Mayo Hospital, resulting in the removal of the Medical Superintendent. Patients and attendants had lodged multiple complaints about poor hospital management and inadequate facilities.
During her visit, Maryam Nawaz expressed her dissatisfaction with the administration, questioning the MS’s competence. She criticized the hospital’s poor condition, emphasizing that patients arrive with hope for treatment but face mismanagement instead.
Her decision to dismiss the MS was part of efforts to improve healthcare services in public hospitals. The incident highlighted serious lapses in hospital operations and underscored the need for immediate reforms to enhance accountability and patient care.
