The Islamabad administration has closed several popular hiking trails in the Margalla Hills after heavy rainfall raised serious safety concerns.
The decision was taken to protect visitors from potential landslides, falling rocks, and slippery pathways that pose life-threatening risks. Continuous rains over the past days have already disrupted normal activities in the federal capital, prompting authorities to act swiftly. According to the official notification, Trail 2, Trail 3, Trail 4, Trail 5, and the track behind Saidpur village will remain closed until conditions improve. These routes attract large numbers of hikers and tourists, but officials warned that allowing public access during the current weather could lead to accidents.
The administration has advised citizens, especially hikers and nature enthusiasts, to avoid visiting the hills until further notice. They cautioned that ignoring this advisory not only endangers lives but also affects security and rescue efforts in the area. Authorities added that the situation is being closely monitored, and a review will be conducted once the rainfall subsides. Before reopening, inspection and restoration work may be carried out to ensure the tracks are safe for public use.
While the closure has disappointed many regular visitors, officials stressed that public safety is their top priority. They assured residents that updates will be provided promptly once the risk of accidents is reduced. In the meantime, the administration reminded citizens that taking precautionary measures during extreme weather is essential. They emphasized that public cooperation will help minimize danger, making it possible to reopen the trails sooner for safe outdoor activities in the Margalla Hills.
