West Indies collapses for 162 in Ahmedabad test

In the opening Test against India, West Indies were bowled out for 162 runs in their first innings.

West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first, but their batting lineup collapsed under pressure from the Indian pace attack. Justin Greaves scored 32 runs, Shai Hope managed 26, and captain Roston Chase added 24, but none of them could convert their starts into big scores. The visitors struggled from the beginning and failed to build strong partnerships.

For India, Mohammad Siraj led the attack with four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah took three. Kuldeep Yadav claimed two, and Washington Sundar added one to wrap up the innings. The disciplined bowling display highlighted India’s depth and control in home conditions. This two-match Test series is part of the ICC World Test Championship, making every point crucial for both teams. India, playing under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, entered the series with confidence after recent strong performances.

West Indies, on the other hand, came into the contest weakened by injuries. Key fast bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph were ruled out, leaving the Caribbean side short of firepower. Their current squad is a shadow of the once-dominant West Indies teams that ruled world cricket.

India’s playing XI included KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (capt), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj. West Indies fielded Tagenarine Chanderpaul, John Campbell, Alick Athanaze, Brandon King, Shai Hope (wk), Roston Chase (capt), Justin Greaves, Jomel Warrican, Khary Pierre, Johann Layne, and Jayden Seales. With India’s bowlers already in control, the pressure is firmly on West Indies to fight back and avoid another one-sided series defeat.
