Google announced on Tuesday that it will launch its upgraded autofill feature for the Chrome browser next Monday.
Now, the browser can automatically enter details such as passport numbers, driver’s license information, and vehicle registration data, including license plate numbers and VINs. This is an expansion of Chrome’s earlier ability to autofill only addresses, passwords, and payment details.
With this update, desktop users who have enhanced autofill turned on will see their saved information appear automatically when filling out forms. This aims to save time and reduce typing errors. At the same time, Chrome has improved its ability to understand complex forms and different formats, which helps ensure more accurate autofilling across various websites.
Google emphasizes that users stay in control of their data. The browser will only save sensitive information if a user chooses to store it, and all saved data will be protected with encryption. Before Chrome fills in personal information, it will also ask the user for confirmation to ensure that details are not shared accidentally.
These new autofill improvements are now rolling out globally in all languages. Furthermore, Google plans to support even more types of personal data in future updates to make online browsing faster and smoother. This enhancement comes as part of Google’s broader efforts to upgrade Chrome and add smarter features, especially as more AI-powered browsers emerge in the market. By improving security, precision, and convenience, Google aims to keep Chrome a leading choice for internet users while offering useful tools that simplify everyday tasks online.
