Punishment for Imran Khan and Qureshi: What will it be?

Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi have been recently found guilty in the Cipher case. According to sources, Imran Khan was charged for holding onto an official document which was to be kept secret under the Secrets Act. However, PTI’s Imran Khan compromised the secrecy by showing the document and contents of the document to the general public in one of his public appearances.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been charged for aiding and abetting the alleged Imran Khan for this act. Sources suggest that according to Pakistan’s constitution both of these individuals can get severe punishments.

What punishment can Imran Khan and Qureshi get in Cipher case?

As they have been officially charged now, they might be punished according to the constitution of Pakistan. According to sources, both individuals have been charged with Section 5 and Section 9 of the Act.

Section 5 states that any individual who is charged and is found guilty of retaining the secret document will be charged with 14 years in prison. In the worst case scenario, the individual can even be facing the death penalty.

The second clause (b) states that a shorter sentence can be given of upto 2 years in prison and a fine. However, Imran Khan’ charges are falling under clause (a). As far as the Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is concerned. The law states that anyone who aids and abets is liable to the same punishment as the main convict. This means both the individuals will have the same punishment. Several Banks Blamed for “Manipulation” in The Recent Fall of Rupee Against The USD
