Punjab makes e-tagging compulsory for all vehicles

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the mandatory installation of e-tags on all vehicles, including motorcycles, across the province and directed authorities to submit a comprehensive micro security plan within seven days.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where officials reviewed the overall security situation in detail. According to authorities, installing E-Tags will make it easier to monitor vehicle movement through modern tracking systems.

As a result, law enforcement agencies will quickly identify stolen or suspicious vehicles. The government believes that the use of advanced technology will significantly improve crime prevention and ensure public safety. The chief minister has approved the project and directed all relevant departments to begin immediate implementation.

In addition, the meeting approved the establishment of a Punjab Cyber Crime Investigation Unit. This new unit will focus on tackling online crimes and providing swift assistance to victims. Furthermore, a special cell will handle cybercrime cases involving women and girls to ensure faster action and better protection. The government has also approved setting up a District Online Crime Center in every district to strengthen digital security at the local level.

Moreover, officials decided to tighten surveillance at provincial entry and exit points. Authorities will install searchlights at check posts and introduce drone-based monitoring systems to improve security coverage. Instructions have also been issued to ensure rooftop surveillance in sensitive areas. Importantly, the Chief Minister has ordered the immediate purchase of a modern drone defense system. At the same time, the government will impose a strict ban on the illegal use of drones to prevent security threats.
