The death of the Leader Separatist party Hardeep Singh Nijjar has spiralled into new conflicts between India and Canada. 41 Canadian diplomats are on their way back to Canada as they’ve departed from India. The Canadian government has explicitly blamed India for this death and they have strongly condemned it as it took place on Canadian soil in Vancouver.

Following these events, the Indian government has retaliated and has the Canadian government to show any evidence they have for such vicarious claims. In recent news, The Foreign Affairs Minister of Canada, Melanie Joy has claimed that New Delhi has actually revoked immunity for the Diplomats of Canada.

41 Canadian Diplomats Exit India

Due to this escalated tension, 41 Canadian Diplomats have exited India and are on their way home to Canada according to Melanie Joy in an official statement. This marks a significant step between the bilateral relationships of India and Canada.

This matter escalated when Canada explicitly expelled an Indian Diplomat over this issue. Hardeep Singh was the alleged leader and vocal person for the Sikh seperate party known as Khalistan. The Canadian government has demanded for an investigation on the mureder of Hardeep Singh and has requested for cooperation from the Indian government. However, India has taken offensive action and has suspended visa services for Canadian nationals.

The Sikh Separatist movement has been demanding a separate state for the Sikhs for as long as 1980. However, Canada has an approximate of 770,000 Sikhs and this makes up almost 2% of the Canadian population. They have been striking in Canada as well outside several Indian Institutions such as the Embassy. They demand Justice for Hardeep Singh and claim that they are not safe back home in India and they’re not safe here in Canada as well now. $1.5 Billion MoU signed by Pakistan and China for Petroleum Sector
