G1 Garlic had been on peak for the last 2 to 3 years. Investors alongside farmers had been buying the seed in massive quantities and selling them. However, in a shocking turn of events, the price of G1 Garlic dropped from an astonishing 18,000 Rs per kilogram to a mere 1,500 Rs per kilogram on average.
G1 Garlic was introduced by the National Agriculture Research Center with the promise of 10 times the yield. The seed did show massive potential and right after it was introduced in the market, potential investors and farmers alike started buying the seed in bulk to plant it and then multiply their money by selling the seed again. The crop gave 10 times yield with respect to its seed and soon after, many people started taking the seed and planting it.

However, in a shocking turn of events, the market quickly saturated and the same sG1 garlic is now being sold at Rs 500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500 per kilogram in many areas of Pakistan. As the market is saturated and the price has massively dropped, many individuals are at risk of a massive loss.
Most of the investors had bought the seed at Rs 18,000 and Rs 15,000 per kilogram. Moreover, the low class farmers had also invested this year and many of them are at great risk as they may have borrowed money from people with the hopes of multiplying it.
Even though there has been a massive decline in prices, the seed still holds potential as the government is looking to export it and not rely on garlic import at all. Moreover, the myth has been busted and G1 garlic might not have the same revenue potential as it did before due to its over saturation in the market.
However, experts at NARC still state that the seed has potential as it generates more yield than any garlic product and the bulb size is relatively bigger as well. There have been statements that garlic bulbs create foam while cooking. Experts suggest that it comes from the excessive use of garlic. The bulb size is bigger than conventional garlic hence one bulb is enough for cooking.
