HOBC demand surges as sales hit record 35000 tons in November

High Octane Blending Component (HOBC) sales hit a record 35000 tons in November 2025.

Topline Securities has reported a noticeable rise in the demand for HOBC, mainly due to competitive pricing in the fuel market. The difference between the prices of HOBC and Motor Spirit has become much smaller, encouraging many motorists, especially those with turbo-engine vehicles, to switch to HOBC for better performance.

This increase in demand comes shortly after the government announced a reduction in the prices of major petroleum products. Officials said the price cuts were introduced to give relief to consumers at a time when global oil markets continue to fluctuate. The price of Motor Spirit (petrol) has been reduced by Rs2 per litre, bringing it down to Rs263.45 from the earlier rate of Rs265.45. Similarly, the price of High-Speed Diesel has been cut by Rs4.79 per litre, lowering it from Rs284.44 to Rs279.65.

According to the petroleum division, this latest price revision is aimed at easing the financial burden on the public while keeping fuel rates aligned with movements in the international market. Meanwhile, analysts say the narrowing gap between HOBC and petrol prices has created a clear shift in consumer preference. Many drivers who previously avoided the higher-priced fuel are now opting for HOBC, believing it offers better efficiency and protection for modern engines.

Market observers expect the trend to continue as long as the price difference remains small. They also believe the government’s recent price cuts may support overall fuel consumption in the coming weeks. Overall, the combination of reduced fuel prices and changing consumer behaviour is shaping new patterns in Pakistan’s petroleum market, with HOBC demand rising faster than expected.
