The Punjab government has announced a speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour for motorcycles across the province in an effort to reduce road accidents caused by speeding.
The cabinet approved the registration of vehicles within the next six months and imposed a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for motorcycles. Companies manufacturing new motorcycles will be required to comply with this speed restriction.
Additionally, the cabinet approved the Hindu Marriage Act Rules, which will ensure the formal recognition of marriages within the Hindu community in Punjab. The provincial government also introduced initiatives to support youth entrepreneurship, including loans for young people to start their own businesses.
Through the Easy Business Card program, interest-free loans of up to Rs30 million will be available to eligible youth. The cabinet also took significant steps toward promoting sustainable transport in the province. The first batch of 28 electric buses will be arriving in Lahore within two to three days, marking a significant move towards green transport.
Furthermore, the Punjab Finance Department’s innovative business plan was approved, though specific details were not shared at the time of the press conference. In a related development, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) launched a pilot project to build dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists in the city.
This project aims to enhance road safety and encourage the use of alternative, environmentally friendly modes of transport. These initiatives highlight the provincial government’s efforts to improve transport, foster entrepreneurship, and promote sustainable development in Punjab.
