Government vehicles in Lahore have emerged as the leading violators of traffic laws, prompting authorities to consider stricter measures to curb the trend.
This suggestion aims to increase accountability among government employees regarding traffic violations.
In addition, Waheed introduced a system to calculate fines based on the vehicle’s social and financial value rather than the type of violation. He proposed that luxury vehicles worth Rs50 million should face fines up to 10 times higher than standard rates. Waheed also pointed out that police and traffic police vehicles are among the biggest offenders of traffic rules, underlining the need for stricter accountability.
The goal of this initiative is to improve road discipline, particularly for government and law enforcement vehicles, which are often accused of disregarding traffic laws. It also aims to encourage more responsibility and fairness on the roads.
Alongside the fine proposal, the CTO announced a crackdown on beggars, particularly those who target women and children on Lahore’s streets. He declared that there would be zero tolerance for beggars on the streets and emphasized that legal actions would be taken against violators.
These steps are part of a broader effort to strengthen law enforcement, enhance traffic discipline, and address social challenges in the city.
