Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership strongly condemned India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, as the nation observed Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir today.
Today marks six years since India’s controversial action of removing the special status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir by scrapping Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019. Kashmiris across the world are observing Youm-e-Istehsal to protest against this unconstitutional move and continued Indian occupation. On this day, rallies and protests are taking place in different countries and on both sides of the Line of Control. Kashmiris are raising their voices against India’s attempts to change the region’s identity and political status. The All-Party Hurriyat Conference has also called for a Black Day to highlight the ongoing injustice.
The Pakistan Armed Forces, in a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations, expressed full support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination. Military leadership, including the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and all three service chiefs, said India’s occupation and actions violate international laws and UN resolutions. They added that peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without resolving the Kashmir issue as per the wishes of its people. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also issued a message reaffirming the nation’s solidarity with Kashmiris. He said India’s steps on August 5, 2019, were illegal and aimed at changing Kashmir’s demographic structure. He called on the international community to take notice of these violations.
