The district administration of Nankana Sahib has declared a public holiday on Wednesday, November 5, in connection with the celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary.
Deputy Commissioner Nankana Sahib Muhammad Tasleem Akhtar Rao issued the official notification, confirming that all government offices, schools and colleges across the district will remain closed for the day. The holiday aims to facilitate Sikh pilgrims and local citizens who wish to participate in religious activities and celebrations.
Every year, thousands of Sikh devotees from Pakistan and abroad visit Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak, to attend special ceremonies and prayers. This year as well, large gatherings are expected at Gurdwara Janamasthan, where officials have already started making arrangements to ensure security, crowd management and smooth transportation for visitors.
Meanwhile, local authorities have instructed departments to stay available for emergency services despite the public holiday. Health, security and municipal teams will remain on duty to assist pilgrims and maintain public services. In addition, traffic police have also prepared a special plan to control vehicular flow near religious sites and main routes.
Overall, the arrangements reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring that celebrations take place in a respectful and organised manner. As pilgrims continue to arrive from different regions, authorities remain focused on providing support and maintaining law and order across the district.
