A tourist family reported missing after being swept away by flash floods at Babusar Top has been identified on Sunday, according to local sources.
Rescue teams and local residents have recovered a car and personal items from a flood-affected area near Babusar. Documents found at the site helped identify the missing individuals as Shabana Liaquat, a TV anchor from a private channel, her husband Liaquat, and their four children. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Diamer, the family belonged to Nowshera and had gone missing after flash floods struck the region on July 22. Search operations are still ongoing to locate them.
At least 15 people were swept away by strong floodwaters after a cloudburst near Babusar road. So far, seven bodies have been recovered, while seven more individuals are still missing. To support the rescue efforts, the district administration has deployed sniffer dogs and drones in the area. The operation continues as officials hope to trace the remaining victims as quickly as possible.
Authorities have asked tourists and travelers to avoid the Babusar area for now due to dangerous weather conditions and ongoing rescue activity. The tragedy has raised concerns over safety measures for tourists in mountainous regions during the monsoon season. Heavy rains and flash floods often cause deadly situations, especially in areas with poor connectivity and tough terrain.
Officials say teams are working day and night to assist affected families and restore safety in the region. Local volunteers are also helping in the rescue mission, showing strong community support during this difficult time.
