LAHORE – A new achievement in the history of Pakistan as Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi announced the manufacturing and distribution of 26,000 electronic bikes and rickshaws for Punjab.
This announcement came at a ceremony held at a hotel in Lahore by the Punjab Transportation Department. A task which was said to be impossible to achieve has been initiated by Mohsin Naqvi.
Addressing the Students and the Public he stated that the first formal contract for the manufacturing of Electric Rickshaws has been given to the CEo of Sazgar Motors.
Furthermore, he stated that 10,000 e bikes will be made available to the public on interest free instalments through the Bank of Punjab while another 2,000 will be given to special individuals, interest free.

Keeping in mind the pollution levels in Lahore, he stated that no further government-level contracts will be made for the procurement of fossil-fuel run two-wheelers in the province.
The initiation of Qingqi Rickshaw Body Standards program is an amazing step to make Pakistan lean and green again and goes with UN’s Sustainable Goals for Development.
Mohsin Naqvi showed gratitude to the Bank of Punjab and commended the individuals involved in the provision of interest-free electric bikes and rickshaws to the public.
CM Naqvi states that the inspiration has been taken by China to ensure better Air Quality of Lahore as the city has been continuously suffering from extreme levels of smog during the winter.

In a move to reduce the pollution, CM Punjab has stated that government, secretariat, and public employees including women can benefit from the provision of these electric vehicles.
He hopes for a positive role from all officials and stated the challenges that would be faced by the government institutions such as the axle bearing load capacities for such vehicles and the introduction of new driving licence rules and regulations.
He also commended the members of his cabinet for their continuous support and stated that EVs are the future and we need to incorporate electric vehicles in Pakistan.
The ceremony included Amir Mir, Bilal Afzal, CCPO, Chairman of Bank of Punjab Zafar Masood, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Commissioner Lahore, Consul General of America Ms. Kirstin K. Hawkins, Consul General of China Mr. Zhao Shiren, Ibrahim Hasan Murad, Mansoor Qadir, Provincial ministers, Secretary Transport, SM Tanveer, and other notable personalities including the senior officials from Motor companies as the CEO of Sazgar.
The bikes were inspected by the CM himself as he took a small ride on the electric bikes and rickshaws presented and praised their quality and standards.
Furthermore, he also stated that the prices of these EVs will have to be affordable and the vehicles themselves need to be durable to tackle the rough landscape of Pakistan.
