ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) released a notification in which they stated an increase in buffer time for New SIM from 8 hours to 7 days.
A notification was issued by PTA which the general public couldn’t understand and the misconceptions were further cleared by PTA.
The buffer time for a new sim currently is 8 hours. It takes 8 hours before your SIM can be active for activities due to the verification from NADRA on CNIC.
Prior to this the ‘New SIM’ buffer time was 8 hours which did give citizens activation facilities much faster but it was much more detrimental.
New SIMs were issued and were sued for fraudulent activities as the activation time was very quick.
Now, with the new amendment in the SOPs of PTA, a citizen will need to wait 7 days before the activation of a new SIM.
Moreover, this is for a second time, as the first SIM will be issued instantly after verification on CNIC.
The second SIM will take a week as PTA and NADRA will access the person’s prior record and SIM allotment.
Furthermore, no other transactions regarding SIM issuing will be affected by this new SOP which will be effective from January 24, 2024.
The new SIM will be issued instantly but a subsequent issue of the SIM will take 7 days to save the citizens from fraudulent activities as people pose to be officials of any NGO or survey and scam the citizens.
